Fonda, Island and Briggs lakes
The north edge of the township between Grand River Avenue and Silver Lake Road, around Fonda, Island and Briggs lakes and older lake plats such as Island Lake Colony, Lake View Park and Victoria Park, with Island Lake State Recreation Area filling the east. One of the township's oldest areas: the typical home dates from 1967, about nine in ten are detached, and owner values sit near $320,700 with a wide margin. The master plan says runoff from a state highway salt storage site along US-23 turned many private wells here salty, which is why the western part has its own Fonda, Island and Briggs water system, and township sewer was extended around the lakes. Briggs Lake allows no motors.
Hidden Lake and the township hall
Off Silver Lake Road around Hidden Lake, which the master plan describes as a lake left by past mining and later built up with waterfront homes, plus Silver Fox Lake, Colman Park and the township hall at 10001 Silver Lake Road. One of the newest areas, with a typical home from 2005, and the largest owner median in Green Oak, near $705,300, though its margin is about $146,000. Hidden Lake has its own private water system, and the township's sewage treatment plant sits inside the development. All of it is in Brighton Area Schools, yet about seven in ten homes carry South Lyon 48178 addresses.
Mallard Lake, Academy Hills and the Huron River
The open middle of the township along Silver Lake, Rushton and Doane roads, from Academy Hills and Rolling Green near the Huron River east past Mallard Lake, Spring Mill Pond and Moose Ridge Golf Course to the old Green Oak crossroads. Lots run large: about a sixth of the township's land holds about 6% of its homes. Owner values near $376,800 with a wide margin, typical home from 1982, nearly all detached. Spring Mill and Davis creeks put about 15% of the land in FEMA's high-risk zone. Mostly Brighton Area Schools, with South Lyon on the east side.

Our flood map sample found no high-risk zone here.
Saxony and Willmor off Lee Road
West of US-23 by the Lee Road interchange and the Green Oak Village Place shopping center: the Saxony and Willmor subdivisions with Cheddar Valley, Mapleview and The Meadows. The oldest housing in Green Oak by typical build year, 1964, with owner values near $211,800, every home detached. The master plan says these subdivisions were tied into the water authority's mains after their private wells gave too little water or water of poor quality, so many homes here are on public water. Confirm it for the address. Brighton Area Schools and Brighton addresses.
Huron Meadows and Winans Lake Road
The west side beyond US-23, which takes in about 21% of the township's land, more than any other block group, from Winans Lake Road north past Huron Meadows Metropark on Hammel Road and Maltby Lake, with subdivisions such as Horizon Hills, Fisher's Glen, Hodge's Green and Arbor Meadows. Typical home from 1996, owner values near $413,400, nearly all detached. Frog, Viking and Monahan lakes
Between the north end of Whitmore Lake and Silver Lake Road, around Frog, Viking and Monahan lakes and plats such as Whitmore Acres, Forest Ridge on the Lake and Fairlane Meadows. Detached houses only, no renter households in the Census estimate, typical home from 1982. The owner median, near $310,200, carries a margin of about $166,500, the widest in the township, so lean on recent sales. Three mailing towns meet here: 10400 Viking Court reads South Lyon and sits in Brighton Area Schools, while 10793 West Charring Cross Circle reads Whitmore Lake and is in Whitmore Lake Public Schools, both inside Green Oak.
Silver Lake, Limekiln Lake and Centennial Farms
South of Silver Lake Road around Silver Lake, about 150 acres, and the smaller Limekiln, Fish, Sandy Bottom and Ten Mile lakes, out to the old Rushton crossroads, with Centennial Farms on its own two-well water system off Cambridge Court. About a third of homes are attached, more than anywhere else in the township, and almost all are owner-occupied. Typical home from 1982, owner values near $331,600. Two block groups: around the lake, owner values near $464,000 and a typical home from 1995, toward Post Lane near $411,200 with a wide margin and 1990. The lake shore, Walker Creek and the Yerkes Drain put about 14% of the combined land in the high-risk flood zone. South Lyon Community Schools.
Woodland Ridge off Nine Mile Road
Along Nine Mile Road west of Rushton Road, most of this block group is the Woodland Ridge manufactured home community around Nearbrook Court: the Census counts 398 of its 538 homes as manufactured homes, with a typical build year of 2007. That is why the owner median reads near $105,700, far under the township's, and why the financing works differently here, as the manufactured home question below explains. South Lyon Community Schools, South Lyon addresses, and no high-risk flood zone in our sample.
Whitmore Lake's north shore
Green Oak's share of Whitmore Lake, about 236 of its 677 acres by the master plan's count, along North Shore and East Shore drives near the public boating access site, part of the Whitmore Lake census place that continues south into Washtenaw County.
